Who is responsible

Holistic Hybrid Inc. is responsible for personal information collected by the Classifieds. Person in charge of the protection of personal information: Robert Scales, info@lapetitenation.ca.

What we collect and why

Account: email, display name, language. To sign you in and write to you about your ads and messages.
Ads and photos: what you post. Photos are resized in your browser and their GPS location is removed.
Messages: text exchanged through relayed messaging, to deliver it and protect against fraud.
Obituaries: the notice details, your relationship to the deceased and how to verify the notice, to prevent false notices.
Consents: the date and version of the terms you accepted.
Security: a salted fingerprint of your IP address, kept in memory for under a minute, to limit abuse. We don't record your IP address.

Cookies and tracking

One cookie only, needed for sign-in (pa_s). No targeted ads, no social-media pixels, no analytics with cookies or visitor profiles. We measure audience in aggregate only (page viewed, category, town, language, search words), with no cookie, no IP address and no identifier. Ad views are a simple counter.

What is public

Your ad content, your town and, in messages, your display name. Never your email. Obituaries are kept out of search engines when the family asks (the default).

Providers and hosting

Supabase (database and sign-in), ca-central-1 region in Montréal.
Cloudflare (network and site execution; Turnstile, an anti-robot check without tracking cookies; and an automated screening tool that reads each ad's title and text to help moderators spot scams and spam, without your name or email; the text is not reused for any other purpose), global network; US company.
DreamHost (sends email from pa@lapetitenation.ca: sign-in codes and notices), servers in the United States. Emails never contain the text of your private messages.
These providers act on our instructions under contract. A privacy impact assessment was done for communications outside Québec.

How long

Expired ad: text and photos erased 90 days after expiry.
Messages: erased 12 months after the last message in the conversation.
Account: erased on request, or after 3 years without sign-in (with notice 30 days before).
Reports and moderation decisions: kept 3 years, without your name once the account is deleted.
Log of emails sent (address and subject): 30 days.

Your rights

Access your information and get a copy: "Download my data" in My account.
Have it corrected, or remove an ad or notice at any time.
Delete your account: button in My account.
Ask for de-indexing of information about you.

Incidents

If a confidentiality incident presents a risk of serious injury, we notify the people concerned and the Commission d'accès à l'information, and we keep an incident register.
