Obituaries: legal notice
A free, verified service
La Petite Nation publishes obituaries, thanks and memorial anniversaries for Petite-Nation families free of charge. There are no fees, no paid options and no advertising on these pages.
Who can post
- A family member of the deceased, or someone acting with the family's consent.
- A licensed funeral home with a verified account.
- We never copy notices published elsewhere (funeral home sites, newspapers, other sites).
Verification before publication
Every notice posted by a family is confirmed before it goes online, usually with the funeral home named, otherwise by another reasonable means. The notice then shows "Verified notice". We may refuse a notice we can't confirm.
Rights to the text and photo
The person posting declares they wrote the text or have permission to publish it, and have the right to use the photo. The text and photo remain their authors' property. Copying them elsewhere, including by sites that republish obituaries, is not allowed.
Protecting the family
- We refuse home addresses, full dates of birth and the mother's maiden name: they're used for identity theft and burglaries during funerals.
- By default the notice is kept out of search engines. The family can choose to make it findable.
- The condolence book is optional; each message is read before it appears, and links aren't allowed.
Removal and correction
The family can correct or remove the notice at any time from their account, or by writing to info@lapetitenation.ca. If family members disagree, we take the notice down until it's settled. Anyone can ask us to stop disseminating information about them (Law 25).
Responsibility
The notice content is the responsibility of the person or company who posted it. We act as host and promptly remove any notice that is false, offensive or posted without the right to do so once we're told about it.
