The Haunted Dome

Town · MRC de Papineau
Thirteen lakes, hills over 400 metres, and a living made from the forest.

Saint-Émile-de-Suffolk is an old English township turned Québec village. It was incorporated in 1881 and until 1994 was still officially the "united townships of Suffolk-and-Addington". Émile is Émile Quesnel, a merchant and land agent who guided settlers from his general store. The 1881 census already counted families from France, Belgium, Ireland, Scotland, Switzerland and Italy.
The economy has leaned on the forest from day one: logging contractors, excavation, trucking. In summer, cottages on Lac Saint-Émile, Lac des Îles and part of Lac des Plages fill up. There's no real main street; businesses are spread along the back roads.
Village life happens at Parc Joseph-Roy and the Dôme next to the town hall: a torchlight snowshoe walk in winter, a haunted Dôme at Halloween, and a Christmas event in December.
