Boileau Western Méchoui Supper

Lakes, the Maskinongé River and no traffic. Nobody ends up in Boileau by accident.

About 400 people live in Boileau year-round, spread over 140 km² of forest, hills and lakes. The Maskinongé River runs through the whole place from north to southeast, and a lot of the cottages sit right on it. There's the village, the hamlet of Brookdale, Maskinongé Bay, and lakes like du Loup and Champagneur.
Officially it was the township of Ponsonby until 1993. Locals already called it Boileau, after an old postmaster, and the paperwork eventually caught up. The first settlers came from Ireland and England, which is why so many names on the map are English.
If you're thinking of moving here, you're buying quiet, not convenience. Summer is swimming and canoeing, winter is cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling, and fall brings the hunters and anglers.
