In 2026, October 31 falls on a Saturday. There is no school the next morning, and families have more time in the evening than on a weeknight. Organizers have planned a full weekend, from Friday evening until well past midnight on Saturday.

We consulted the municipalities, local organizations and the regional calendar. All the information below was verified for 2026. Where a municipality has not yet published its details, this is indicated as "to be confirmed," along with what was offered last year.

Throughout October: choosing a pumpkin

Verger Croque-Pomme, Lochaber-Partie-Ouest. Squash and pumpkin picking for 2026 is underway. Visitors choose their squash in the field and pay by weight at the scale on the way out. There are carving pumpkins, eating squash (butternut, spaghetti, Delicata, acorn) and decorative gourds. The orchard is open Saturdays and Sundays, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The activity is suitable for everyone and is a convenient way to get the porch pumpkin before October 31.

To be confirmed for 2026

These municipalities usually hold an activity on October 31, but no specific details had been published at the time of writing:

  • Papineauville: Halloween appears on its list of recreation activities, with the note "watch for the 2026 announcement."
  • Thurso: the town's events calendar lists Halloween on October 31, without further details.
  • Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix: last year (2025), a candy pickup was held at the municipal hall with the firefighters, from 4 p.m. on October 31. To be confirmed for 2026.
  • Val-des-Bois: the municipality has held a Halloween treat handout for several years. Details are published on its Facebook page and in Le Valboisien.
  • Saint-Émile-de-Suffolk: the Haunted Dome is listed under recreation, but the page states that no information is available at this time.

Tourisme Petite Nation also publishes an "Activities to celebrate Halloween" page, which we recommend consulting as October 31 approaches.

Trick-or-treating: safety guidelines

The SAAQ, Québec's automobile insurance corporation, provides a few simple rules for Halloween night. On country roads without sidewalks, they are all the more important.

  • Wear light-coloured clothing with reflective strips and carry a flashlight.
  • Choose face paint rather than a mask, to ensure good visibility.
  • Children tell their parents their route and when they will return.
  • Ring doorbells in a group or with an adult, and wait outside.
  • Cover one entire side of the street before crossing. Where there is no sidewalk, walk facing traffic.
  • Cross at intersections.

If you are making the rounds by car from one country road to another, we recommend parking well onto the shoulder with your hazard lights on, and letting children out on the ditch side rather than the road side.

Drivers are asked to slow down in the villages between 5 and 8 p.m. Excited children have difficulty judging the distance and speed of vehicles, especially in the dark.
