Petite-Nation offers about a dozen Halloween events this year, all gathered in our full calendar. For families with only one weekend available, here are five suggestions. They are listed in calendar order rather than ranked, as each was selected for a different reason.

Please note that October 31 falls on a Saturday this year, so Friday the 30th and Saturday the 31st will be the two main evenings.

1. Parc Oméga's night trail, Montebello

Friday, October 30, 6 to 9:30 p.m. Tickets online.

This is the most complete outing of the weekend. From 6 p.m., children have access to inflatable games and giant games, while parents can enjoy the BBQ, the Cookerie and the bar. Le Diable à 5 performs under the big tent. From 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., the night trail features werewolves, vampires and skeletons. The park's wolves are nearby, which adds to the atmosphere.

Children leave with a bag of treats, and costumes are welcome. As the park does not list a price on the event page, we invite you to use the box office and to book early: according to media coverage, spaces fill quickly.

Attractions

Parc Oméga

Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecours

Drive-through safari park with moose, elk, bison, wolves and bears along a 10 km route. The park is open year-round.

2. The haunted walk at Forêt-la-Blanche, Mayo

Friday, October 30, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Cancelled in case of rain.

This event offers a traditional Halloween in the forest, by headlamp. Les Amis de la Forêt-la-Blanche decorate a section of trail in the ecological reserve, and costumed volunteers with lights hand out candy along the way. The walk takes 15 to 20 minutes, a length suited to young children, and you may arrive at any time between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m.

We recommend bringing a light, good shoes and a candy bag, and checking the forecast before leaving, as the event is cancelled in case of rain.

3. The Secteur Maléfique by mountain bike, Montebello

Saturday, October 31, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Regular trail fee.

This is the only one of the five outings that takes place in daylight, and by bicycle. Montebello Vélo de Montagne is marking Halloween in its brand-new sector, whose trails bear fitting names (Sorcière, Sortilège, Pommes Fatales). Candy and pumpkins are planned, along with a possible appearance by the local witch.

A day pass costs $14.50 for adults, $8.50 for juniors aged 10 to 17 and $33.50 for a family. It is free for children 9 and under accompanied by an adult (taxes and fees extra). Bicycles can be rented on site. The outing is a good way to use up energy in the morning before the evening rounds.

4. Trick-or-treating in Chénéville village

Saturday, October 31, 5 to 8 p.m. Church grounds and rue Principale.

This event offers traditional trick-or-treating on foot in a village setting. The municipality, the parish, Les Amis de l'Entraide du nord de la Petite-Nation and the Lac-Simon seniors' committee set up decorated tables and tents around the church, and nearby businesses and homes also take part.

For parents, the event offers a practical advantage: one parking spot, dozens of stops and no unlit back road to walk along. Residents who prefer to hand out candy are invited by the municipality to join in, in costume.

5. Ripon: candy at 5 p.m. and vampires until 2 a.m.

The evening is intended for the whole family, from toddlers to adults fond of the 1980s. Candy is handed out at 5 p.m., a youth dance begins at 6 p.m., and Dark Discothèque's Vampire Ball starts at 8 p.m., with DJ Nebulus and DJ Nouveau Cycle playing vinyl only: goth, darkwave and Italo disco. A best vampire costume contest is held, and a photographer will be on hand.

The municipality also hands out treats at the fire hall, 45 rue Boucher. As the organizers note, October 31 falls on a Saturday only about once every seven years.

In addition: the porch pumpkin

Carving a jack-o'-lantern first requires a pumpkin. Verger Croque-Pomme in Lochaber-Partie-Ouest has opened its 2026 squash and pumpkin picking. Visitors choose in the field and pay by weight. It is open Saturdays and Sundays, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The weekend of October 24 and 25 is well timed for carving before Halloween night.

For Saint-André-Avellin, Papineauville, Thurso, Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix and the other municipalities that had not yet published details, please see our full calendar, which we keep up to date.
